How to play multiplayer without a server?

They don't have to be directly connected, or via a cable.

Any computers on the same network (Be it wired or wireless) in a house can connect via LAN. Technically this is still using a server, but the server is built into the client so you don't need to set it up. Over the internet, You need to either use Hamachi and LAN, Or connect to a server.
