Yeah, It's impossible to play on the server on a phone (Generally. There are ways but I won't go into it and it would be very difficult). However, You can chat using the applications mentioned above.

If we need to jailebreak the iphone, i did it and i have the cydia on my iphone
Shuff, stop trying,you cant actually play on the phone as you do on the computer.
However, like people above said, there are alternatives.
Just download the MCChat, or MineChat application from the app store on your iphone.
You cant play, but at least you can chat and talk with the players.
